Sangi is a small, privately owned developer and marketer of specialty chemicals and health-related products, based on the calcium phosphate compound hydroxyapatite, the main component of teeth and bone.
A pioneer in development of hydroxyapatite, especially for dental restorative use, Sangi launched the world's first 'remineralizing' toothpaste - using nanoparticle hydroxyapatite, 'the same substance as our teeth' - in 1980. Over 50 million tubes have been sold. Sangi's ingredient was approved as an anticaries agent in Japan in 1993, after extensive laboratory research and field trials, and designated Medical Hydroxyapatite to distinguish it from other forms of hydroxyapatite, such as dental abrasives.
Sangi considers oral care not just a matter of medicine or dentistry, but quality of life. We seek to create products that promote health by supporting natural healing - in this case, the restorative role of saliva in providing a constant supply of mineral to our teeth.
Sangi's name and logo derive from the three principles (Sangi) of the Chinese scholar Mencius: 'The timing of the heavens, the riches of the earth, and the harmony of men.'
Established in 1974, Sangi has around 70 staff, roughly a quarter of them involved in research.
